The Civil War was a difficult time for the United States, but with Abraham Lincoln's thought out military and political strategy, he was able to re-unite the United States.
Beginning of the War
Lincoln's Main goal was to regain order in the Union by bringing back the seceded states
Lincoln was ready "to lose the nation and yet preserve the Constitution." He says this because the Constitution granted the government no power
Lincoln thought preserving the Union was his sacred duty as president
End of the War
The main issue of the Civil War became more about slavery, around the time Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in January of 1863.
Lincoln was elected back into office for a second term after the Civil War, showing that a majority of the country supported him and thought he did a good job as President in his frst term.
